Very sad news; incredibly talented guitarist who -- based on his recent discography -- seemed to be branching out and beginning to do some really exploratory work.

I saw him around 2000/2001 in a bar doing a solo set; I'd done my fair share of Takoma listening and wasn't that impressed. In light of his passing and the extensive discography that he built over the last decade, I sort of regret not investigating him further. Clearly he was following in a tradition with as much heart as brain.

very sorry about his death; that whole school of playing, from Fahey on, I find to be well-meant but lacking in intensity, a little too-reliant on open tuning and the more obvious things it allows.

but this guy was too young to go. Sounds like a sincere guy.

Can you explain what you mean by lacking in intensity, and why this kind of playing should be intense? I would say that Robbie Basho's music is quite intense, especially the music on his compilation, Guitar Soli.

The Japanese sounding stuff is intense, such as Golden Shamrock.
