Chalupa Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 (edited) Arthur magazine is reporting that guitarist Jack Rose has died. No other info is available. I'm in shock. I just saw him at a bar two nights ago, sitting just a few bar stools away. He looked happy and healthy. Forgot to add this... http://www.arthurmag.com/2009/12/05/remembering-jack-rose/ Edited December 5, 2009 by J.H. Deeley Quote

Chalupa Posted December 5, 2009 Author Report Posted December 5, 2009 Early word is heart attack. Not confirmed. Quote
Joe Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 Very sad news; incredibly talented guitarist who -- based on his recent discography -- seemed to be branching out and beginning to do some really exploratory work. Quote
7/4 Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 Young too. I knew him from Pelt. They used to hang out with some friends of mine. Quote
skeith Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 I liked one of his cds very much. This is sad. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 I saw him around 2000/2001 in a bar doing a solo set; I'd done my fair share of Takoma listening and wasn't that impressed. In light of his passing and the extensive discography that he built over the last decade, I sort of regret not investigating him further. Clearly he was following in a tradition with as much heart as brain. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Death of an artist is always bad, but some folks from Chicago might think of a completely different guy. Quote

AllenLowe Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 very sorry about his death; that whole school of playing, from Fahey on, I find to be well-meant but lacking in intensity, a little too-reliant on open tuning and the more obvious things it allows. but this guy was too young to go. Sounds like a sincere guy. Quote

Neal Pomea Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 very sorry about his death; that whole school of playing, from Fahey on, I find to be well-meant but lacking in intensity, a little too-reliant on open tuning and the more obvious things it allows. Can you explain what you mean by lacking in intensity, and why this kind of playing should be intense? I would say that Robbie Basho's music is quite intense, especially the music on his compilation, Guitar Soli. The Japanese sounding stuff is intense, such as Golden Shamrock. Quote
