Dmitry Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Has the country given up on jazz for good? After all, it's as much a part of our tattered fabric as, say, 'Made with pride in the USA'... Is it possible to actually kill a musical style by neglecting it? Who's to blame? Dinosaur Quote
brownie Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) I will not reply on this right now (others will I am sure) but just wanted to say hello to the Dinosaur! Welcome back! Edited January 28, 2010 by brownie Quote
AllenLowe Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 well, American f**ks whatever it wants - not that there's anything wrong with that - actually, I was reading Marty Khan's AAJ interview just this morning - and everything Marty says, or has said over the years, about the jazz biz has really come to pass - basically the business does it all wrong, as do the musicians. Marty's work in this area is indispensible. Read the interview and his book. Quote
BeBop Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 "Don't Blame Me". I don't spend all of my time in the States, but a considerable portion of it. And a considerable portion of my income goes to jazz - live jazz. Living musicians. Still, I know I'm the exception. Too many people not even aware of jazz, and those that are, not really supporting it. Buying used and cutout CDs at deep discounts wouldn't seem to provide much financial support, though they do make a market. Quote

Merci, Brownais! What up Doc! Where's the bail-out for American Jazz?! The prez is supposed to be a jazz fan, is he not? Quote
Jazzmoose Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I'll explain exactly what the problem is, but first, I have this tooth that's giving me trouble... Quote
sonnymax Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 (edited) Of course America fucks jazz. Where do you think new jazz musicians come from? The real problem is that America doesn't call jazz afterward. Edited January 30, 2010 by sonnymax Quote
brownie Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Jazz is in trouble all over the world... from the London Times website Quote
Dmitry Posted February 3, 2010 Author Report Posted February 3, 2010 Jazz is in trouble all over the world... from the London Times website Crap. I drive a Honda Fit [American name for Honda Jazz]. I thought the car's engine was anemic, but now that I know it can actually catch on fire, I have a whole new respect for it. I've been thinking about a catchy name for it. Now I have it - A Flaming Sword ! Quote
