chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 from that Baltimore club, the famous door, or i dont remember but its that series we always are talking about, you know, with all the tapes? well i saw this new looking cd today w/ definetly a new cover art (some hot chick on a couch) and the bonus cuts were from 1971 w/ the same rhythm section (walton/simpkins/higgins) + cliff jordan on the bonus-- wanted to see if you guys are aware of this one// Quote
brownie Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Could not miss noticing the appearance of that album (on Jazz Ball) with a cover like this The CD reissues three tracks (dating back to the '70s) from a Label M release plus the full Discovery 1988 (not 1971) studio session that came out also as 'Cedar Walton Plays the Music of Billy Strayhorn'. The three tracks from Baltimore were the bonus material, not the other way around! Quote
Dan Gould Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Thanks for the explanation, Brownie. I saw this one listed on Amazon just a couple of days ago and was thrown off by the presence of Higgins and the fact that AMG doesn't list a "Strayhorn" release on any label - except for this release. If this is one of them Andorran outfits, I wonder if 1988 is the most recent recording they've claimed as "fair game". Quote
mikeweil Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Doesn't seem to be from any of these Andorran labels - Absolute Distribution doesn't list it. Quote
Dan Gould Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 (edited) Actually the label is listed, but only one disc comes up as available, and its not this one. Edited February 10, 2010 by Dan Gould Quote
mikeweil Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I think it's a Britsh label: Jazz Ball JBR 878 - Jimmy Rowles Trio / 1977/78 (CD) - £ 12.65 (£ 11.00) JBR 879 - Art Farmer & Tommy Flanagan's Super Jazz Trio / Stablemates (CD) - £ 12.65 (£ 11.00) JBR 880 - Cedar Walton / Plays Billy Strayhorn (CD) - £ 12.65 (£ 11.00) JBR 881 - Al Haig Trio / Enigma (CD) - £ 12.65 (£ 11.00) JBR 883 - Sonny CRiss / Blues In My Heart (CD) - £ 12.65 (£ 11.00) JBR 884 - Kenny Drew / Work Song (CD) - £ 12.65 (£ 11.00) Quote
Dan Gould Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Work Song is a Xanadu release. I'd like to know if these are legit licensed reissues or is there now a UK company that ignores copyright, too? Quote
Victor Christensen Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 I have a feeling that it's Andorran, I got it from Jazzmessengers in Barcelona, it's their retail outlet, great shop with very good service, and sorry to say I buy a lot from them, they have so much you can't get elsewhere.
