Ok, Explain This, Please

Type a post, click the post button, and sometimes it works like it should. But sometime it takes me back to the main page, w/o the post going through. But then I use the back arrow & there the post is waiting to be posted, so I click the post button again, and voila, it's all good.

There appears to be no pattern either.

Any ideas?

In fact, it just happened when I tries to post this!

Best guess would be to clear all cookies/traces of O on your PC and login anew.

I've had similar issues in the past and was able to fix 'em that way.

Secondly, if you post while the server is busy (or your own connection is slow or temporarily f*cked up), things like that can happen as well. Your browser can't "patch through" and, if you're lucky, what you conceived for the general populace to see is still available via the back button*.

*This NEVER works for me if the post happens to be a long-ass one.

I get the same effect on RapisDhare sometimes, only there's an actual error message as a result:

Same thing, use back button, click again, all is well.

Anybody got a clue? I sure don't...

don't want to speak too soon or anything, but...upgraded my Java today and haven't had this issue since...does that seem like plausible cause/effect thing?

I don't understand any of this, but I'm still finding that the "go to last post" link (from the "new content" page/list) still takes me to the first post instead of the last post about half the time (or maybe every third time). Mac/Sarari. No big whoop, just odd.

It's because, when Jim put in the new system, the database lost the details of what our last posts read were. So, if you haven't looked at a thread since the changeover, it'll take you to the first post. It's OK once you've started re-reading a thread since the changeover.

?... I'm saying there is no pattern. Sometimes I'm taken to the last post (as the button is supposed to work), and sometimes I'm taken to the first post, regardless of how recently I might have visited a thread (if at all, in fact). You said it would work correctly once I had started re-reading a thread since the changeover, and I'm saying that this hasn't been the case for me.

my "dead post syndrome" has stopped with the updating of my Java, but the whole not-marking-as-read detailed above is still present, and, also above, w/o any discernible pattern.

far from the end of the world, but will be curious if any of us finds a fix one day.

and please, don't go there!
