Iwas just over at the Blue Note site and in their news section, their talking this guy up. I can only assume that he's now a Blue Note artist. I went to his website and am listening to some tunes now. Pretty good stuff.

For what it's worth, his AMG bio looks impressive (to me) and their review of his Orthodoxy record is very favorable.

Anyone know anything about this guy or hear him play at some point? From what I'm hearing right now, he's definitely worth checking out.

I believe he is also the brother of one of the founders of a company that does the majority of radio promotion for Blue Note these days.

I have recently discovered Liberty's first three albums for Pi: Tactiles, Ophiuchus Butterfly, and Radiate.  IMHO each one is better than the prior one.  The first one is relatively straight-ahead, but MBase and Henry Threadgill influences become increasingly pronounced thereafter.

Also, a very good, recent trio recording under his own name. It's more straight ahead than the Pi but no less impressive.

The fourth Pi is a winner too. Someone who records as a leader not as regularly as I would like but it does make a new album an event in this household.
