I saw the Yardbirds in the summer of 1965 at the Marquee Club. I thought they were going to be a jazz group. (I'd seen several jazz groups at the club previously.) At the time I was more iompressed by all the pretty girls in attendance than the group.

My son and I decided to go at the last minute. It was a lot of fun. The guitarist and singer were actually very good. Even the new songs were OK.

Bertrand.

Great! Good to know.

I'll go as far as suggesting that I prefer this singer (Andy Mitchell) to Keith Relf.

Hard-core Yardbirds nuts may disagree. My knowledge is more casual.

BTW, did they take their name from Charlie Parker?

That takes me back! Saw them about the same time in a very small club in Leeds backing John Lee Hooker. A few couples smooched around the dance floor - I seem to have been the only one listening to the great man's music!

I think it was generally accepted that they took their name from Charlie Parker, though I heard no Birdology in their music. :)
