bertrand Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Is the current band calling themselves The Yardbirds any good, or are they a joke? They're playing around here in May. Bertrand. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 It's Mccarty & Dreja from the classic lineup (unless that's changed) and they can do reasonable recreations of the original sound, but reasonable recreations wasn't what the original was about... Quote
medjuck Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 I saw the Yardbirds in the summer of 1965 at the Marquee Club. I thought they were going to be a jazz group. (I'd seen several jazz groups at the club previously.) At the time I was more iompressed by all the pretty girls in attendance than the group. Quote
BFrank Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 I've heard one or two of their recent albums. Not all bad - don't know what their live show is like. I'm sure there's stuff on YouTube. Quote
bertrand Posted May 22, 2010 Author Report Posted May 22, 2010 My son and I decided to go at the last minute. It was a lot of fun. The guitarist and singer were actually very good. Even the new songs were OK. Bertrand. Quote

bertrand Posted May 23, 2010 Author Report Posted May 23, 2010 I'll go as far as suggesting that I prefer this singer (Andy Mitchell) to Keith Relf. Hard-core Yardbirds nuts may disagree. My knowledge is more casual. BTW, did they take their name from Charlie Parker? Bertrand. Quote
BillF Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 I saw the Yardbirds in the summer of 1965 at the Marquee Club. I thought they were going to be a jazz group. (I'd seen several jazz groups at the club previously.) At the time I was more iompressed by all the pretty girls in attendance than the group. That takes me back! Saw them about the same time in a very small club in Leeds backing John Lee Hooker. A few couples smooched around the dance floor - I seem to have been the only one listening to the great man's music! I'll go as far as suggesting that I prefer this singer (Andy Mitchell) to Keith Relf. Hard-core Yardbirds nuts may disagree. My knowledge is more casual. BTW, did they take their name from Charlie Parker? Bertrand. I think it was generally accepted that they took their name from Charlie Parker, though I heard no Birdology in their music. Quote
