Teasing the Korean Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 I have more than 30 Cal Tjader albums, and much as I love all of them, I keep coming back to "Soul Burst." I love the combination of Corea's chord voicings, Cal's vibes, and the Latin percussion. This is the only album they did together that I have. I'm guessing it may be the only one, period. I wish they had done more. Quote
mikeweil Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Corea is also playing on Along Comes Cal - never reissued on CD, but vinyl copies are in circulation. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted May 9, 2010 Author Report Posted May 9, 2010 Corea is also playing on Along Comes Cal - never reissued on CD, but vinyl copies are in circulation. Thanks. I have that one, but it was not in any of the areas where I have Cal albums stashed. Maybe it's in a DJ stack. Quote
mikeweil Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Five of the tracks were included on the numerous Tjader CD compilations Verve released over the years ... some on CalTjader - Talkin' Verve - Roots of Acid Jazz and some as bonus tracks to el sonido nuevo with Eddie Palmieri. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted May 9, 2010 Author Report Posted May 9, 2010 (edited) Five of the tracks were included on the numerous Tjader CD compilations Verve released over the years ... some on CalTjader - Talkin' Verve - Roots of Acid Jazz and some as bonus tracks to el sonido nuevo with Eddie Palmieri. Thanks. I think the only Cal CDs I have are reissues of straight albums or twofers. Most Cal Tjader I have is on LP. No idea where I (mis)filed "Along Comes Cal." Still hoping it's in a DJ crate. Mike, what do you think of the Chick/Cal combination on "Soul Burst?" Edited May 9, 2010 by Teasing the Korean Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted May 9, 2010 Author Report Posted May 9, 2010 I just found it. I have CT records filed in five different sections. It was with the Cal Tjader rekkids in the Latin section rather than in the Groovy section. That was where I'd been looking. Quote
kh1958 Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 I have this LP in my backlog of not yet heard albums. Sounds like I should take a listen. Quote
JSngry Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Does Chick turn up in any more "unexpected" Verve sessions/context, like Herbie did? Quote
rostasi Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Not on Verve (ESP), but surprisingly, he shows up here: Quote
