bertrand Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 If so, who's in the band? What tunes does he do? How is the vocalist? He's in D.C. Thursday. Bertrand. Quote
BFrank Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 Saw him in February at Yoshi's. Here's a capsule review I posted on JazzCorner: Great Doug Carn/Black Jazz show tonight. I was not familiar with Kathy Farmer, but she was outstanding. Very much in the Dee Dee Bridgewater mold with an amazing range and very expressive. The group was obviously enjoying themselves and put on a spirited show. The rhythm section was particularly impressive - Michael Carvin (d), Henry Franklin (b) and Calvin Keyes (g). Doug drove the music with his McCoy-inspired piano. George Harper (ts) and George Frazier (fh) were less interesting, but didn't cause any problems. A good time was had by all (including Peter Coyote a couple of tables over). Quote
ValerieB Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 (edited) saw Doug in Rotterdam summer before last playing with Johnny Griffin and Reggie Johnson. theyKirk Lightsey was also part of the group. were smokin'. i believe Doug has been living in Paris in recent years. Pete C Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 Brooks, I'm glad to see that Peter Coyote was digging the music. The impression I got when I saw the PBS Summer of Love doc was that there's nothing he digs more than himself. Quote
