Saw him in February at Yoshi's. Here's a capsule review I posted on JazzCorner:

Great Doug Carn/Black Jazz show tonight.

I was not familiar with Kathy Farmer, but she was outstanding. Very much in the Dee Dee Bridgewater mold with an amazing range and very expressive.

The group was obviously enjoying themselves and put on a spirited show. The rhythm section was particularly impressive - Michael Carvin (d), Henry Franklin (b) and Calvin Keyes (g). Doug drove the music with his McCoy-inspired piano. George Harper (ts) and George Frazier (fh) were less interesting, but didn't cause any problems.

A good time was had by all (including Peter Coyote a couple of tables over).

Brooks, I'm glad to see that Peter Coyote was digging the music. The impression I got when I saw the PBS Summer of Love doc was that there's nothing he digs more than himself.
