robviti Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 I thought I'd pass along this info to anyone who might be interested in giving or receiving a subscription to Downbeat. I haven't read Downbeat for years, and I know many board members feel it is overpriced and lacking in depth. Still, if you're interested, go to bestdealmagazines to subscribe to this magazine and many others at very low prices. During the checkout process, enter the coupon code "REN915" to get an additional 20% off. This brings the total cost of 24 issues of Downbeat down to only $23.96. Enjoy! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've bitched about Downbeat's prices for a couple years (and I never have subscribed), but at that rate - I probably will go ahead get a subscription. Much appreciated!!! Quote
Free For All Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 Thanks for the info, jazzshrink. I took advantage of the offer- the coupon really sweetened the deal. Quote

Aggie87 Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 bump.... I just discovered you can order magazine subscriptions through the ebay stores. Has anybody tried this? I'm wondering how legit it is. Cheapo Magazines Ebay Store Downbeat 1 year - $16.49 2 years - $25.75 Jazz Times 1 year - $12.79 and here's an interesting combo: Blender Magazine (4 year sub) + Maxim (2 yr) + Stuff (2 yr) = $5.49 total. I don't really care too much about the magazines in that last offer, but that's one heck of a price. Quote

I don't really care too much about the magazines in that last offer, but that's one heck of a price. ← I've had very bad luck with the eBay magazine sellers. I'd say 80% of my deals go amiss, and I get less than I was promised, or nothing at all. (This is based on about 20 transactions.) I've given up. I use the regular internet sellers and the ubiquitous coupons - 20 - 25 - 30% off discounted prices. (I think I pay less than $10 a year for Jazz Times and a bit more for DownBeat.) One complicating factor on eBay transactions is that magazine subscriptions typically aren't promised until 120+ days into the future, so, by the time they don't show up, or show up with a shorter-than-promised subscription period, the official eBay feedback period has lapsed. Aggie87 Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 Thx Bebop - I hadn't even considered the time lag factor that could put you out of ebay's feedback period. You've scared me off of considering these deals. The prices sure seemed good, but I guess I can find comparable deals as you suggest online elsewhere. I don't buy every copy of DB/JT, but I buy enough (at cover price) to where a subscription will save me some money. Thanks, Erik Quote
robviti Posted October 27, 2005 Author Report Posted October 27, 2005 not as good a deal as i reported 2 years ago, but this site has a year's subscription to downbeat for $17.97: magazinevalues.com Quote

I've been the biz for 20 years, my father wrote a book on it. That 120+ days doesn't wash. If EBay is doing that they are breaking Federal laws. Go to the magazines web site, don't screw around with agencies. Quote
