ghost of miles Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Anybody seen this film in its entirety? I stumbled across a clip of it the other day on YouTube and did a little writeup about the jazz club scene for the Night Lights site: Night Tide jazz club scene Paul Horn is the flutist--not sure about the others, though somebody on Facebook ID'd the drummer as Milt Turner and the bassist as Victor Gaskin. Looks like the whole film is posted right now on YT. Quote
jazztrain Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Correct, Chuck! Used with permission. Note Feature film (over 60 minutes). Songs "Seaweed" by Jimmy Bond; "The tell tale harp" by David Raksin. Personnel on Camera Jazz group in opening sequence:- Joe Gordon, trumpet; Paul Horn, flute; + acoustic double bass, drums. >>> Looks like Joe Gordon to me. Quote
paul secor Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Tossup for me which is more pretentious - Hopper or Horn's flute playing. Quote
ghost of miles Posted August 25, 2010 Author Report Posted August 25, 2010 (edited) Thanks much, Chuck and Jazztrain. I've updated the post with a credit to you both for the ID. Edited August 25, 2010 by ghost of miles Quote
ghost of miles Posted September 12, 2010 Author Report Posted September 12, 2010 Upping this for JSngry. Quote
AllenLowe Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 (edited) terrific drummer - anybody know who? interesting is how tongue-tied Horn is - basically plays the same phrases over and over. They're trying to play, to my ears, a la Kind of Blue/Impressions. Edited September 12, 2010 by AllenLowe Quote
Larry Kart Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Based on this "Frankly Jazz" clip: the drummer might have been Milt Turner. Quote
JSngry Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Upping this for JSngry. Got it, thanks. Quote
Adam Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Seen the film in its entirety. It's a low-budget moody marvel from Harrington. When I first saw it, I "got" Dennis Hopper as well. It plays at least once a year in Los Angeles, as a good "Los Angeles" film, and Harrington's place in the L.A. avant-garde. He was a great person. Quote
