brownie Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 It has tracks by the Gerald Wilson Orchestra of 1945 thru 1947. More material from the orchestra was included in these two Chronological Classics: Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 label = 'sounds of swing' Not that rare. Those swing era big band reissue LPs from the 70s such as Sounds of Swing, Bandstand, Golden Era, etc. have been relatively common fare in the secondhand bins for quite some time even over here so i figure this must be the case even more so in the U.S. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 15, 2010 Author Report Posted December 15, 2010 yea, but u always see count basie ones...not the gerald wilson!! Quote
mikeweil Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 (edited) A friend of mine had that Sounds of Swing LP - I might still have a cassette tape of it. But it does not include all of the material on the two Chronological Classics CD and sounds worse. If you have those two CDs you can skip it. Edited December 16, 2010 by mikeweil Quote
brownie Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 'Sounds of Swing' was a California-based label that specialized in reissuing material from dance and jazz bands. They had LPs from Bob Crosby, Red Norvo, Artie Shaw, Gene Krupa, Roy Eldridge among others in their catalogue. Quote
