skeith Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 In the thread on the book about Monk, I noted that this show featured one of the characters reading this book. In last night's episode, the african-american character who is inheriting a car dealership from his father, decides to get rid of the Muzak in the building and put on as he says "Herbie, Miles, and some funk". I did not hear any Herbie or Miles last night, but some funk was played and hey maybe they will get played and maybe some viewers are wondering who Herbie and Miles are. Quote
skeith Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 There was also a funny scene where the african-american character is at a restaurant with the two white friends and they get on the subject of jazz - the white guys don't get the fascination that it holds for the african-american friend and they look dumb. Score one for jazz!!! Quote
jazzbo Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 This is a great show for many reasons. Good tv, indeed. Quote
RDK Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 Glad this was mentioned. It's an excellent show! Quote
skeith Posted January 11, 2011 Author Report Posted January 11, 2011 Last night's season finale was quite good IMO. Quote
RDK Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Not many shows could get away with an entire episode about a group of guys going in for a colonoscopy and make it so entertaining! Quote
skeith Posted June 1, 2011 Author Report Posted June 1, 2011 This show starts new episodes again tonight... in case you guys weren't looking. Quote
skeith Posted July 12, 2011 Author Report Posted July 12, 2011 Did you guys see the last episode? What happened in the last scene? Quote
Stereojack Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 I came to this show late after hearing rave reviews from friends. Started in the middle of season 2, and after the season ended, discovered that both seasons are available for free at Comcast On Demand. We now are two thirds through season 1, and we are totally loving this show! Quote
Quincy Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 All episodes are available for streaming at TNT's website too. The fact that I'm 48 has nothing to do with my love for this show. Quote
Stereojack Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 I just read that TNT has cancelled this show after two seasons, citing poor ratings. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 What Chuck said. Damn. S, that's Kelley's wife, the actress reading the Monk book, isn't it? Quote
Quincy Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) While I'm extremely disappointed the series is ending, at least the Season 2 finale acted as finale for the series as long as you don't mind a bow not being put on it. It's easy enough to imagine simultaneous struggle & satisfaction for Terry and all of them. I mean, you didn't really want or need to see a wedding for Terry did you? But coming one day after the Friday Night Lights finale...I guess I have more time for reading now. Edited July 18, 2011 by Quincy Quote
skeith Posted July 18, 2011 Author Report Posted July 18, 2011 I am really bummed. Can we talk about what you guys think happened in the very last moment of the last episode - however I do not want to ruin it for those who haven't watched it yet and still want to. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 I don't remember the final scene specifically. Was it with Ray, feeling "okay" about how he did on the tournament try out and deciding not to move forward, happy that his kids were proud of him, and looking forward to another date with the hygenist? And having a twinge of pain from his bookie-busted tooth? At first I thought the last scene was with Owen and his father talking about the sacrifice of running a dealership, Owen finally understanding and wanting that kind of burden. But it had to end with Ray, right? What's the favorite episode of everyone? Mine is the "I just want to stop and look at you" episode, Ray returning to dating. That one just has my girlfriend and I howling in laughter each time we watch. The funniest one, in our estimation. Quote

The final scene of the last episode has Ray looking into a mirror and then something quite dramatic happens but it is not clear. I want to ask what others thought but do not want to create a spoiler. jazzbo Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 I thought that was when the tooth flared up on him. I may be wrong, which I saw as a typically Ray thing, good coming, followed by something painful; obviously I'm not remembering it in full detail. Quote
GA Russell Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 I don't get cable, and am not familiar with the show. But I note for those interested that both seasons are available at Amazon, though not at prices which would qualify them for the Bargain DVD Box thread. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Well, the second season is not yet out. Nor does it yet have a release date. Probably this fall. I highly recommend watching an episode or three on the tnt website G. A.! http://www.tnt.tv/dramavision/?cid=59359 Quote
GA Russell Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 You're right, Lon! I didn't look closely enough. http://www.amazon.com/Men-Certain-Age-Season-Two/dp/B003L77GZ6/ref=sr_1_2?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1311003623&sr=1-2 Quote
