AllenLowe Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 (edited) well, I opened this up with great expectations; though I never liked her musically (her recordings always sounded to me like a dilettante attending rock and roll camp) I have liked some of her prose, tough and personal, and this thing has been praised to the skys. well, it's awful - florid, overly sentimental, banal, boring, trivial, needs editing. I shouldn't be, but I am surprised. Edited February 16, 2011 by AllenLowe Quote
jlhoots Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Since we all know what opinions are like, I respectfully disagree. Quote

Hoppy T. Frog Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 (her recordings always sounded to me like a dilettante attending rock and roll camp) To quote Clementine: BINGO!!!! Quote
Alexander Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 "Is that how you say it? 'That's a bingo?'" "You just say 'bingo.'" Quote
Dave James Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Saw a list the other day of actual quotes from men having colonoscopies. The best of the bunch was the guy who asked the doctor to be sure to tell his wife that they didn't find his head up there. Quote
Don Brown Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 I had one three days ago, twelve years after my first. The doctor found one polyp which he removed but was unable to retrieve. He was unconcerned however since it was so small. He told me that if I was younger he'd suggest I come back for another procedure in four years. But since I'm in my 79th year he told me I'd likely die from something else before bowel cancer would ever be a problem. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 Kind of strange hearing "it will be fine at your age". I have heard this a few times and I'm 67. Quote
Dave James Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 I just wanted to mention how proud I am to be part of what may be the best example of a derailed thread in the history of Organissimo. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 I liked the book but I'm easy. Quote

Mapplethorpe was alternatively ahead of his time re:colonoscopies. Quote
