Use3D Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 NINETEEN MONTHS LATER... Opinions will no doubt vary but I find this man to be without comedic talent. (I remember his act when he first hit the scene. He was going nowhere until he hit on the I'm-so-sick routine.) GADS he's dreadful! ← I know I also hate this guy, go back to obscurity or peddling shitty little juice boxes no one likes. Still enjoy the show however. Quote
Soul Stream Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 My wife absolutely HATES this show. She's a T.V. Primetime Head (E.R., Westwing, Desperate Housewives...all that crap), she say she can't stand the unconventional sense of dialog (I think much of it is improv, or maybe just great writing and informal delivery). But I love it for just that reason. I mean, I just watched a new episode this week where Larry invites a neighborhood sex offender to a holiday gathering because the guy was a big Seinfeld fan and also helped Larry with his golf swing. THAT is some great stuff. Quote
Big Wheel Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 (edited) I've never really sat down for a whole episode of CYE, but I'm kind of surprised that everyone hates Richard Lewis. The funniest episode I've seen of Late Night with Conan O'Brien features Lewis talking about seeing Shaq naked in the Lakers locker room. (This was the one they later decided to remake in claymation.) Edited November 19, 2005 by Big Wheel Quote
Brad Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 I think he adds to it. I just watched the episode tonight where Larry gave him a mantra for his meditation and it turns out the mantra means "Fuck Me". Hilarious. I was in stitches. LD is just so obnoxious, it's hilarious. How about the one earlier this season where he unintentionally makes that Japanese American guy attempt suicide. The ending was one of the best ever. One of the greatest shows ever on TV. I don't watch any comedy shows except this. The rest is all staged pap. Quote

Brad Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 That's why it's no good. People practicing their craft an no pre canned crap. Quote
JSngry Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 How about the one earlier this season where he unintentionally makes that Japanese American guy attempt suicide. The ending was one of the best ever. ← "Kamikaze Bingo" was the episode's official title, I believe. Mark my words - history will record this as one of the greatest episodes of televison comedy ever. Bar none. So many disparate threads, each experty developed independently, and then, at the very last possible second, BAM!!!, they all come together in a collision (literally!) of cosmic inevitability. I laughed out loud harder than I have in years the first time I saw it, and still have the same reaction upon re-viewings. It's one of those rare moments where laughter is a true reflex, not an act of social signifying. Genius and craftsmanship of the highest level (and in every regard) at every step of the way are the trademarks of this show, and, imo, they reached an apex in this episode. It just don't get any better. Quote

Another great one is when Larry picks up the hooker to utilize the car pool land and ends up bringing her to the baseball game. Quote

7/4 Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Two Curb threads? Just posted on the other one. ← Maybe they should get merged? Maybe B-3er can't be bothered? Maybe I should buy the season 1 DVD? Maybe I have too much time on my hands? Quote

Maybe I have too much time on my hands? Yes Maybe Definately Almost certainly ← I'll look into it. Maybe I'll hit the CD/DVD shop on Sunday afternoon. Maybe people will shout SUNDAY DRIVER! as I speed down Rt.1 in hot pursuit of this item, cutting in and out of traffic reclessly. Edited November 19, 2005 by 7/4 Quote
Rosco Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Don't know if the US version of the set is the same, but on the UK edition the hour-long pilot episode (a 'documentary' that charts Larry's return to stand up) is actually an extra on disc 3. Take my advice and watch that first, then go back to the series proper on disc 1. The show isn't fully in its stride in season one but The Pants Tent, Porno Gil, Beloved Aunt and The Group are all superb. Quote

I thought it was kinda "angry", but I'm willing to give it another chance. Quote
