chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 i really like this STATUS issue jackie mclean john jenkins ALTO MADNESS. ira gitler wrote the orig notes, but then theres a followup paragraph from the status issue in '65. its really interesting he tells what happened to all the players in the time since. doug watkins are wade legge are dead. anyways ive never seen this before (except the rvg series, lol) so do any of you are aware or this type of stuff, like -shortly- after the fact, like this status issue from 65? it is sad in a way, everyone changed and the alto madness was never the sameoh and as far as john jenkins it says hes still in NY but not really on the scene (not gitlers words)-- did he go into other non jazz work? JSngry Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 All the late-60s/early-70s Prestige "historical series" reissues had notes like this. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted October 23, 2011 Author Report Posted October 23, 2011 oh, awesome! Quote
brownie Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 I have several of the Status LPs but can't remember seeing any followup liner notes on them Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted October 23, 2011 Author Report Posted October 23, 2011 what was up with them assigning a new label name to the reissues anyway? Quote
JSngry Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 The ones I'm talking about were all on Prestige proper and came out in the late 1960s. Quote
johnlitweiler Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 oh and as far as john jenkins it says hes still in NY but not really on the scene (not gitlers words)-- did he go into other non jazz work? Jenkins came to Chicago around 20 years ago and played in a concert tribute to Captain Dyett, his old DuSable High School teacher. He sounded just great. Quote
paul secor Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 John Jenkins passed away in 1993. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Barnaby reissues of Candid LPs also had "follow-up" liners. Quote
