JETman
Blaser is quite good -- sort of in a Mangelsdorff mold. Another one to check out is Hal Crook. He's part of that whole Garzone/Boston/Fringe crowd.
clifford_thornton
ah, don't know Crook. Thanks.

ATR
http://deeplistening.org/site/releasesby/Dempster Live in the Great Abbey is a stone classic. Not jazz, but improvised. Check it out. That George Lewis recording for Sackville sets the bar pretty high, too.
king ubu
Got that Rutherford yesterday and gave it one spin so far... will certainly enjoy it many more times! What's that about "ham"? Seriously? Guess that would indeed have been an even great title!
Teasing the Korean
I had no idea that such an unlistenable sub-genre even existed.
clifford_thornton
Hey, we're not talking about unaccompanied Ray Draper - trombone soli can be very interesting!
.:.impossible
I've seen Hal Crook many times. One of the benefits of living in Providence. I don't think he has any solo records though, does he? Thanks for all of these recommendations. More than a handful that I do not have! king ubu
Isn't every trombone rekkid kind of a solo rekkid since dem bones play in their own world, kind of? Seriously, that Rutherford disc is great! Got to look into more of his stuff!
Peter
Gotcha. I meant to say over here he was pretty definitive for a long time - at least for people like me. It's great so much of his work is currently easy to find on Emanem and PSI, and in fact more now than ever before. emanemdisc.com has shown 4107 PAUL RUTHERFORD TRIO "GHEIM - live at Bracknell 1983" as "Currently out of stock" for well over a year now.
