Free speech is funny thing, ain't it? I strongly disagree with what Ozzie said but I don't think it was right for him to be suspended for it.

Phillies are in trouble.

I think it's a joke he got suspended. However, he put the Marlins in a bad spot. Economically, they had few options.

Well, not sure this fits into the free speech realm, since what he said will really hurt his bosses, and fellow employees. He may lose his right to manage the team, if fans stop showing up...at the brand new park that no one knows if fans would keep coming to after the opener anyway.

What's strange, is Ozzie has been pretty harsh when speaking about Hugo Chavez...I wonder if there is any truth to the excuse of thinking in Spanish and speaking in English...I mean, I know he does that...I just wonder if that lead to saying love when he didn't really mean that word.

If you read the full quote, he was just saying that he respected Castro because he (Castor) has been a "marked man" all these years and was still standing.. The "champion" mentality of all competitors, the refusal to get knocked down so as to be taken out.

He's talking about basic "survival skills", not specific political brutalities.

Horribly, stupidly worded sentiment, but certainly not a vile one within the very limited realm which, it seems to me, it was referencing.

FELIZ!!!!

The Rangers have another very good team and they're going to be tough to beat. That would be something, to have both Wild Card teams come out of the AL West, but it could very well happen.

I guess you're talking about the Rangers & Angels, but if both WC teams come out of the West, who actually wins the division? Oakland or Seattle?

Neffie's debut as a starter got severely underplayed in the media, thanks to the twin-hype overkills of Yu Darvish the night before & Ozzie Guillen the day of, but - some of us were worried about his mental toughness, especially after Game 6 last year. would there be any hangover, etc, but no, this cat was DEALING. Walked two in the first, but after that, nothing. No sweat, total poise, incredible command of his off-speed and breaking stuff, and, when needed, that fastball. Seven innings, four hits, hands it over to Adams & NAthan, BOOM, game over. Not even 2:30 long, if my wall clock can be trusted.

There's only been something like, four or five 1-0 Ranger wins in Arlington, ever. And last night was one of them.

FELIZ!!!!

Still a stupid thing to say given the fan base in Miami. He's lucky he didn't get fired.

It would be akin to being the Brewers manager and saying Wisconsin cows are prime tagets for e-coli or beer is the gateway to heroin.

There are hundreds of other better examples he could have used instead of an enemy of the US. He's an idiot.

Oh, totally stupid thing to say, especially in Miami. But if you believe casual media reports, he was talking about Castro as A Great Human Being And Postivie Role Model, and I didn't get that out of it at all. Still there are certain things that you just cannot say in America without people jumping to the worst possible conclusions, and anything about Castro that is not ambiguously and totally damning falls into that category.

Especially in Miami. Never mind Bautista's caretaking of the island as essentially a whorehouse and casino for debauchery-craving Americans, that's not relevant. Castro is The Single Most Evil Man In The History Of Cuba. Nobody else counts.

Ironic that many Cubans fled their country because of a lack of freedom, and now they want to deny freedom of speech.

I am sure they would say he has the freedom to say it, and they have the right to protest it. It's hyperbole to be sure, but someone said on espn that's their Hitler. Families were broken up because of him, killed because of him(AND YES NOT IN ANY NUMBERS COMPARABLE TO HITLER!) so they really don't want to hear good things about "Hitler"

I understand the emotion, definitely. You still have survivors, lots of them. Survivors, refugees, children and grandchildren of people who have some pretty horrific stories to tell. And Guillen definitely should be cognizant of that. But I don't think it's at all fair (although sadly symptomatic of the times) that one quote gets isolated out of context and all of a sudden it's Ozzie Guillen Thinks Sadistic Dictators Are Cool People.

Ain't like that, at least not what I've found. And I don't blame the Cuban-American community nearly as much I do the lazy media. For every one articel I found online that gave the full quote (which provides a bit of context for a careless statement that definitely needed it), there were significantly more that just reported the Guillen Loves Castro. Period.

The funny thing about it is that if all this hubbub continues, Guillen's identification of/with Castro as a Marked Man Who Survives will only be strengthened.

Besides - Americans love gangsters. Let's not pretend we don't. You'd be hard pressed to find somebody who says "I love John Gotti", but you'll find plenty of people who say, "yeah, I gotta respect how the mob lives by their code" and so forth. So let's get real about what was actually said and what it really meant, hopefully.

My problem with Ozzie is simply that he was a lousy manager the last couple of years in Chicago. How could he put a .154-hitting DH into the lineup day after day when he had at least 2 guys hitting well over .100 better on the bench? He didn't even seem interested in his teams. Did Miami hire him to win games or to attract attention? Because making the news, getting quoted on TV, became his main skill a few years ago.

The Dodgers actually look like the have the makings of a decent team this year. Nice game by Billingsley last night; Javy Guerra gets his fourth save; Ethier is looking healthy and interested in playing some baseball. Kemp, of course, seems to be pissed-off that he didn't win the Triple Crown & MVP last year, so he's going to try to do both this year -- talk about a player putting all the pieces together, he really is the best player in baseball right now. There are some people actually showing up for the games now, so it might be a good year for The Blue.

The NL West seems to be very competitive this year, with the DBacks, Dodgers, Giants, and Rockies vying for the lead. The Giants though, wow, Lincicum didn't even last three innings last night, he really looked bad, he now has a ERA of 12.91. I loved how the Giants announcers declared that Lincicum "has is stuff tonight" after just two pitches! The dangers of being a homer I guess. 17 runs, that's pretty bad, even if it is in Denver.
