tranemonk Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Just listening to her new CD. It is a double CD recorded live in 2011. I've always thought she flew under the radar for too long but I think this new release is her best.... For those of you who don't know her... http://sumitonooka.com/new-cd-now.html Click on the link and it takes you to cdbaby where you can give it a spin. Quote
relyles Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 I have the recording with Erica Lindsay, which is very good. May have to check the solo disc out at some point. Quote
felser Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Saw her back in the day (ca. 1976-1977-1978) as the opening artist at one of the concerts Leo Gadson produced at the Ethical Society in Philly, and she was really good even back then in her early 20's. Wonderful series of concerts, though I don't imagine he made a penny on them. Juju played right around the time of their 'African Rhythms' album, and like 20 people showed up. Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, George Adams/Hannibal Peterson, Jackie McLean. Monette Sudler opened for one of the shows. Others I can't remember through the haze, but great stuff, low ticket prices, and a beautiful hall. Quote
