jazztrain Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 Sigh. See first report here: Jazz Programming Cuts at WGBH Quote
Pete C Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 Too bad. Steve Schwartz has been a contributor to Jazz Corner for years. Quote
BillF Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 Great pity. Have greatly enjoyed shows by Steve and Eric. Quote
sonnymax Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 This news is extremely difficult for me to hear. I've been listening to Eric Jackson for over 20 years, and Steve is a friend. I cannot see how I can continue to support WGBH financially in light of these changes. Quote
Mike Schwartz Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 There's quite a bit of action about this at Steve Schwartz' Facebook page, including the email address of the goofball who made the decision. Quote
disaac Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 "The date for these changes hasn’t been set, according to station managing director Phil Redo, who broke the news to Jackson and Schwartz Tuesday." With a name like that, everyone had to know change was imminent.... Quote
ghost of miles Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 What's particularly maddening about this is that Boston already has a news/talk NPR station with WBUR. Quote
jazztrain Posted June 21, 2012 Author Report Posted June 21, 2012 With a significant duplication of programming which is likely to increase in the future. Go figure. When I asked about this in the past, I was told that the wider area of coverage of WGBH relative to WBUR is one of the justifications for the programming overlap. For those of us in the local area, it just means that more and more local programming gets squeezed out. Of course, I'll no longer need to contribute in the future to two local NPR stations with a news/talk focus, will I? What's particularly maddening about this is that Boston already has a news/talk NPR station with WBUR. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 What's particularly maddening about this is that Boston already has a news/talk NPR station with WBUR. Same thing when WBEZ in Chicago switched over to all talk. Just what we all need; more propaganda and talking heads! Quote

PHILLYQ Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 What's also sad about these situations is that no matter how well the station does in the future the programming & the hosts won't be back. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 Nothing but news and talk. Isn't there enough of that crap already? Quote
