Michael Weiss Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 Is he still alive? If so, anyone know of his whereabouts? If not, when did he die? Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 Good question. Last recording I'm aware of was made in 1999. Quote

Michael Weiss Posted November 10, 2012 Author Report Posted November 10, 2012 Think this is him? http://www.intelius....y&qn=Root&qs=NV Looks right. How many Billy Roots in Vegas could there be? Quote
JohnS Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) There is a previous thread where his son asked for reminiscences. IIRC he was in Las Vegas then. Edited November 10, 2012 by JohnS Quote

JSngry Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 Best I can find is references to it...maybe it happened on the BNBB instead of here? Quote

It probably is he. According to this bio, he was born in 1934, which would make him 78, and he had been living in Las Vegas. For some reason, I thought he was older than 78. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 there was a great interview in Cadence or Coda some time back, some heartbreaking stuff about Ziggy Vines and his family. Quote

I'm sure it was here , it was either in a Clifford Brown or Bennie Green thread IIRC. Possibly deleted , I couldn't find it either. Quote
JSngry Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 I remember a thread somewhere where DEEP claimed that Gene Ammons was credited for the solos on Soul Stirrin' but it was actually Billy Root playing, because "Alfred wasn't all that down with the light boys", or something like that...very weird thread...
