Can anyone shed some light on the life and career of pianist Billy Greene? Was listening to Elvin Jones/Richard Davis' "Heavy Sounds" (Impluse) last night and was struck by Greene's tune "M.E.," which has a strong Freddie Redd flavor. That's his only recording, if the Lord disco is correct. Was it a pseudonym? Don't have that CD anymore, and can't remember about the liner notes giving info on him ...

In Whitney Balliett's profile of Elvin Jones, Elvin tell that his pianist Billy Greene first told him about Coltrane's death, so I would say he was/is a real person.

This new Blue Note was recorded Live at Pookies. There’s a ton of information out now on this release, but sadly not much on Billy Greene.
