mjazzg Posted February 26, 2013 Report Posted February 26, 2013 I'm a big fan of Kenyatta's 'Girl from Martinique' and 'Freedom State Band' Any views on how Beggars & Stealers stacks up against them much appreciated. thanks in advance Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 It's good. Kenyatta is on tenor for the most part; the 1969 concert recordings (w/ Mouzon, Willis and Booker) are a little lo-fi but it's interesting to hear him on the instrument. He sounds quite different phrase-wise/tonally, somewhat Shepp-like at times. The duo w/ Muhal is short (at like 5') but gorgeous. If you see it for $10 or so (maybe less), grab it. It's rarely an item priced much more than that, truthfully. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 Yeah, I threw it on as a result of this thread and it still holds up - good record. Quote
Dmitry Posted September 24, 2017 Report Posted September 24, 2017 I've never seen this record before. With a cover like this, I'd remember if I had. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 24, 2017 Report Posted September 24, 2017 Was listening to one of Kenyatta’s Atlantics the other night - not so great. Betty Davis appears on one of the tracks, which was a surprise to me. Quote
