John Litweiler
Two albums by trombonist Paul Rutherford: Tromboleneum and The Gentle Harm Of The Bourgeoisie Kaoru Abe's solo alto sax CDs are powerful. I hope Roscoe Mitchell's old Solo Saxophone Concerts is still available (Aeco reissued it.) . I think I mentioned these in another thread. The Magnificent Goldberg
3 solo kora albums, both of which are beautiful. Batorou Sekou Kouyate et sa kora - Kouma - great unavailable LP from 1976 Toumani Diabate - Kaira - Hannibal - everyone's got this, haven't they? Toumani Diabate - The Mande variations - World Circuit. MG

erwbol
I only listened to samples of the last two and put all three in my amazon cart for what it's worth.
BeBop
Bassist Peter Ind's 1967 "Time for Improvisation" is an album of nothing but walking bass lines on the changes of various standards. Sounds like it would be boring, but it's fascinating. http://www.peterind.com/wave_catalogue.htm Agreed. And the best play-a-long record I've ever had. clifford_thornton
I've seen that Kourate one before and heard it was good. Will keep an eye out. As for solo bass records, Unaccompanied Barre from '68 (aka Basse Barre, Journal Violone) is pretty much tops imo. As a Peter Ind fan I'll have to check out his solo bass LPs too, though. And there is this: Spendy boxed set but if you go for solo trumpet and avant-garde music, it's indispensable.
Hardbopjazz
I would add Bobby Watson's "This Little Light Of Mine." All alto sax. He pulls it off. I can sit and listen to the entire CD from start to finish without feeling there's something missing.
