colinmce Posted June 2, 2013 Report Posted June 2, 2013 I was once perusing a book from the 70s or so in a shop and in it there was a photo of a group consisting of (I think) Ornette, Bobby, Charlie Haden & Charles Moffet at Atlantic studios ca. 1961-2. I've never seen this photo again, including on the Internet. I'm assuming they were recording and further assuming that this was part of the music lost in the warehouse fire. I'm wondering if anyone can find this picture or know of the book and can scan it. Quote
paul secor Posted June 2, 2013 Report Posted June 2, 2013 (edited) Here's a photo of Ornette, Bobby Bradford, Charles Moffett, and Jimmy Garrison from 1962: http://markweber.free-jazz.net/2012/05/21/the-coda-interview-with-bobby-bradford-1976/ Don't know if that helps. edit: Scroll down a bit to see the photo. Plus you'll find an interview with Bobby Bradford. Edited June 2, 2013 by paul secor Quote
Late Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Just now read through the interview that Paul posted the link to — thanks, Paul! Man ... the tapes Ornette must have. Sheez. Was that the photo, Colin? Quote
colinmce Posted January 29, 2014 Author Report Posted January 29, 2014 Yep, that was the one. Oh to hear that group! Quote
Late Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 No kidding. Such a shame that the fire (arson?) destroyed those unheard gems. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) The group never recorded for Atlantic. Only private OC tapes exist(ed). BTW, another shoot from that rehearsal was reproduced in Martin Williams' Jazz Masters In Transition 1957-69. Edited January 29, 2014 by Chuck Nessa Quote
JSngry Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 I marvel at a time when a man so often didn't leave home without a tie, or a jacket, or, even, a hat. Just to go make a jazz record. Hell, adults routinely go to the grocery store in their "sleep pants" now, at all hours, too. They're just pajama bottoms with better flies and looser cuts. Totally different mindset. Totally. Seriously. Quote

Is that a rehearsal space they're in? Quote
Neal Pomea Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 OT Our vocabulary for hats has become so diminished that people refer to baseball hats and truckers hats! Don't know even know what a cap is anymore! Where I grew up in Louisiana, even farmers wore fedoras. In the field. I marvel at a time when a man so often didn't leave home without a tie, or a jacket, or, even, a hat. Just to go make a jazz record. Quote
