Was something wrong with Beethoven's metronome?

Could be the battery contact in Wig's ear trumpet.

Ya know, they had wigs with integrated metronomes back then ... and George Washington had false teeth of wood (and his mouth emitted a rotten foulish stench) ... but then wood was good in a way, since it did help Ludwig van catch some sounds, putting a piece of it into his mouth, the other end on the piano (guess if he had wooden teeth, too, it would have been to no avail, but how wood, ahm, I know?)
