Hardbopjazz Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 I was looking at the credits to this Gil Evens session. My MCA/Impulse release lists Ron Carter on trombone. I first I figured it was a typo, but allmusic.com also has Ron Carter listed as playing trombone. Does Ron also play trombone? If so, are there any other recordings with him on trombone? Quote
jazzbo Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 I've never heard of Ron playing trombone. I bet it's an error duplicated in allmusic from the Impulse release. Quote
J.A.W. Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 (edited) Those are typos. Ron Carter only played bass on this Gil Evans date. My hybrid Analogue Productions SACD lists the following personnel:Johnny Coles – trumpetPhil Sunkel – trumpetKeg Johnson – tromboneJimmy Knepper – tromboneTony Studd – bass tromboneBill Barber – tubaRay Beckenstein – alto saxophone, flute, piccoloEddie Caine – alto saxophone, flute, piccoloBudd Johnson – tenor saxophone, soprano saxophoneBob Tricarico – flute, piccolo, bassoonGil Evans – pianoRay Crawford – guitarRon Carter – bassElvin Jones – percussionCharli Persip – percussion Edited September 24, 2013 by J.A.W. Rooster_Ties Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 How does his trombone playing compare with his cello playing? Quote
