Leeway Posted November 23, 2013 Report Posted November 23, 2013 I wonder exactly where the store will be located. Academy was supposed to move its warehouse store from Williamsburg to nearby Greenpoint (maybe already has). This photo looks like the Academy storefront refurbished and made over: Right now, Williamsburg is at the height of hipness. That probably means that in 2 or 3 years, the hipsters will have moved on to Greenpoint or Crown Point or beyond. Anyway, I'm likely to check it out next time I'm in Brooklyn. Quote
.:.impossible Posted November 23, 2013 Report Posted November 23, 2013 Ha! And I thought Greenpoint had already arrived! Quote
Leeway Posted November 23, 2013 Report Posted November 23, 2013 Ha! And I thought Greenpoint had already arrived! There's still some wriggle room there But it's not cheap either. Crown Point may be the next cool place. Quote
mjzee Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 I grew up in Brooklyn and never heard of Crown Point. Is that a renamed neighborhood, or a smaller one carved out of a larger one? Quote
Hoppy T. Frog Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 I grew up in Brooklyn and never heard of Crown Point. Is that a renamed neighborhood, or a smaller one carved out of a larger one? I think he meant Crown Heights. Apparently that is the new frontier. Quote
Leeway Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Yes, Crown Heights And my daughter lives there so that is doubly embarrassing, LOL. BTW, has anyone checked out Rough Trade yet? Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 I think it's mostly new stuff, unless I am mistaken. We live in East Williamsburg, got into a reasonable rent situation via a friend who was leaving the city. It still is extremely expensive here, even with a decently-paying job. Quote
sidewinder Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 I think it's mostly new stuff, unless I am mistaken. If it's like the London UK stores, yes it will be. Don't think I've ever set foot in any of their establishments (thinking about it maybe I did once - over 35 years ago !) Quote
clifford_thornton Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 If they had original Rough Trade vinyl of things like Swell Maps or Pere Ubu, I might be enticed to enter. Quote
BFrank Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 Would have been GREAT to see Television there! Read the review: A Band With Some History Brings Heft to the New Place in Brooklyn Quote
