Head Man
Just noticed that this is coming out next week: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Atlantic-Jazz-Legends-Various-Artists/dp/B0009UXOG8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396336337&sr=8-1&keywords=Atlantic+Jazz+Legends 20 album for less than £3 each, a real bargain. It'll make a good door-stop too.

Big Beat Steve
If they'd included Lars Gullin's LP done for Atlantic I'd have jumped for it and taken the others (all those that I don't have yet) as add-ons, but so ... But the compilation seems like a bit skewed a bit towards a "certain" kind of obvious anyway (no Lee Konitz? no Jimmy Giuffre? no Mitchell-Land's "Hear Ye"?) (Yes, priorities DO differ! )
king ubu
Weird selection indeed, but I guess I can live on without the twor or three I don't have. What about those Gullins - aren't those sessions part of the Dragon series? I'm aware of some Atlantic albums but never really had a closer look at his discography and assumed those were sessions leased or something. I'm aware of some Atlantic albums but never really had a closer look at his discography and assumed those were sessions leased or something. Indeed ... they were leased from Metronome - I overloked that. And they are scattered over various Metronome reissues (most sensibly reissued in keeping with the original sessions on those twofers from the 70s), and part of them have since been included in the CDs on Gullin on Dragon. So irrelevant to that Atlantic box. But still ... (see above)
king ubu
Okay, so I thought ... I have about six of those Gullins here (Vols. 1-4 and one later volume, bought by chance when it was cheap ... this goes too far off-topic here, but how complete is that Dragon series, all in all? I guess having them all will be good enough for me, eventually ... I also just double checked: two Gullin discs in that recent series of Warner Japan/European releases, "Baritone Sax" and "Lars Gullin Swings". The two albums on Atlantic were/are available as a two-fer on Collectables as well. All the tunes, I think, were recorded in April, 1956 so you can probably check your Dragon albums to see whether you already have them. king ubu
Got to dig them up ... or rather got to invest some serious listening time into Gullin's music some day - but can't do any of that right now, I'm afraid, no time at hand. Bluesnik
If they'd included Lars Gullin's LP done for Atlantic I'd have jumped for it Curiously I just bought Lars Gullin's album the other day (Quartet, Quintet, Sextet, Octet and Big Band, IIRC) from a heap of Japanese Atlantic 1000 yen reissues, but I was told, strangely enough, (and it's clearly stated on the package) they're manufactured in the EU. No, no. Now I see its Lars Gullin Swings. The rest is a kind of undertitle.
