jazzkrow Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 For those of you fortunate enough to own the Mosaic box set, are any of the sessions on the Mosaic set available on individual CDs? I own the Hollywood Jam Sessions CD that Fresh Sound put out. This is one Mosaic that only goes up in value. Any of the Roulettes issued individually on CD...? Thanks! Quote
GA Russell Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 jazzkrow, I know of these: Maynard '61 and Straightaway Jazz Themes - $13.31 http://www.amazon.com/Maynard-Straightaway-Themes-Bonus-Tracks/dp/B00BZV12QE/ref=sr_1_12?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1407627896&sr=1-12&keywords=maynard+ferguson Message from Birdland - $13.57 http://www.amazon.com/Message-Birdland-Maynard-Ferguson/dp/B000TE8BHQ/ref=sr_1_19?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1407627985&sr=1-19&keywords=maynard+ferguson Quote
John Tapscott Posted August 9, 2014 Report Posted August 9, 2014 Actually quite a bit of it is available on individual CD's. I'll list some amazon links http://www.amazon.com/Maynard-Straightaway-Themes-Bonus-Tracks/dp/B00BZV12QE/ref=sr_1_12?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1407627423&sr=1-12&keywords=Maynard+Ferguson http://www.amazon.com/Message-Birdland-Maynard-Ferguson/dp/B000TE8BHQ/ref=sr_1_19?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1407627685&sr=1-19&keywords=Maynard+Ferguson http://www.amazon.com/Swingin-My-Way-Through-College/dp/B00491C6FS/ref=sr_1_69?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1407627767&sr=1-69&keywords=Maynard+Ferguson http://www.amazon.com/Message-Newport-Maynard-Ferguson/dp/B0049Z2S2A/ref=sr_1_73?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1407627817&sr=1-73&keywords=Maynard+Ferguson http://www.amazon.com/Newport-Suite-Maynard-Ferguson/dp/B00LODO64I/ref=sr_1_89?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1407627846&sr=1-89&keywords=Maynard+Ferguson http://www.amazon.com/Dancing-Sessions-Maynard-Ferguson/dp/B000UZ4GJQ/ref=sr_1_91?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1407627902&sr=1-91&keywords=Maynard+Ferguson That's not quite all of it, but the prime stuff anyway. But why go through the hassle. For $1,100 you can get a new set or for $700 a used set. http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Roulette-Recordings-Ferguson-Orchestra/dp/B002SK5THY/ref=sr_1_82?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1407628013&sr=1-82&keywords=Maynard+Ferguson Quote
GA Russell Posted August 10, 2014 Report Posted August 10, 2014 John, I had no idea that there were that many! Thanks! Quote
jazzkrow Posted August 10, 2014 Author Report Posted August 10, 2014 The earlier Emarcy sessions, 1953_1955 have great West coast sidemen.Bud Shank. Bob Cooper, Russ Freeman, etc Quote
JSngry Posted August 10, 2014 Report Posted August 10, 2014 If you really like the Roulette band's evolution (and I do!), you might consider following it through to conclusion via the Cameo/Mainstream albums. http://www.amazon.com/Sounds-Maynard-Ferguson-Come-Complete-Recordings/dp/B006GVNILK http://www.amazon.com/Dues-Maynard-Ferguson/dp/B000008AWK I might even rate the Mainstream album as the best album that period of the Maynard band ever made... JSngry Posted August 10, 2014 Report Posted August 10, 2014 Never knew what to make of The Blues Roar...seems like it was more "Maynard with expanded studio band" than "Maynard's band" Either way, it came between Color Him Wild & The Maynard Ferguson Sextet album on Mainstream, which announced that the big band had been disbanded in November of 1964, so...who knows? There were several "in-between" records by Maynard with studio bands until he landed in London and got a for-real band going again. Quote
jdw Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 From post #3 above: Actually quite a bit of it is available on individual CD's. I'll list some amazon links 5 out of 6 of the titles linked are unauthorized European Public Domain releases. Buyer beware. Quote

For $1,100 you can get a new set or for $700 a used set. http://www.amazon.co...aynard Ferguson I know some people here have much high moral standards than I, but I say that when the legitimate owners let them go out of print and have no interest in reissuing them, then get them however you can. Chuck Nessa Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 this is a slippery slope. I owned a number of masters and didn't have the funds to reissue them on cd (largely because I paid all involved). Lucky for me, my father died and I got some money. Be careful of your moral standards. Quote
