JSngry Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 That was a voice of the times, to be sure...and he had a career - and hits - past The Drifters years. RIP, and indelible memories. Quote
paul secor Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 I met him (fleetingly) at a soul concert about 15 years ago. He seemed like a genuinely nice person. Thanks for the music you gave us, Mr. King. (Actually, King was a stage name. Nelson was his family's last name. I met a relative of his when I was giving blood a few years ago, and he told me that Ben E. King was at a recent family reunion.) Quote

John L Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 He had a great comeback in the 70s too with "Supernatural Thing." RIP to the last of the Soul Clan. Quote
Stereojack Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 In 1960 he recorded this classic, one of my all time favorites Quote
kinuta Posted May 2, 2015 Report Posted May 2, 2015 A great voice, a sad loss. Many fond memories of hearing all his classic 45's as a solo artist and with The Drifters for the first time. This will get a spin today. Quote
Guy Berger Posted May 2, 2015 Report Posted May 2, 2015 I love his work with the Drifters, and under his own name. My favorite is "Young Boy Blues". Quote
