A Lark Ascending
Thread as requested in Post a Pic thread. Labels you find interesting, evocative, nostalgic, attractive etc. A few from my (over-active) nostalgia banks: Always liked that one much more than what they replaced it with... ...or... *********************** These two evoke my late-70s first steps into jazz: (n.b. I only ever owned one of those as LPs - but had plenty of LPs with those stickers). Edited May 9, 2015 by A Lark Ascending

sidewinder
Awesome ! That Plastylite Andrew Hill test pressing was also one heck of a find, John.
JohnS
Awesome ! That Plastylite Andrew Hill test pressing was also one heck of a find, John. Probably about £1.50 in Asmans back in the 80s. No cover though. It was an especially good find as Smokestack was very hard to find at the time.
mikeweil
Still have a few of these, found them interesting, but they drove me mad as I always had to turn over to see what LP it was.
Head Man
Still waiting for the John Steven's Away albums to see the light of day on CD. They're all well worth reissuing.....
BillF
I was there Bob.My first jazz concert Saw them in the Autumn (Fall) of '58 at the Bodega club in Cross Street, Manchester - no recording, though. My first jazz concert was the Humphrey Lyttelton band - the "Kansas City" one with saxophone section of Tony Coe, Jimmy Skidmore and Joe Temperley - at Leeds Town Hall in 1957. BillF
I hope 78 labels are allowed on this thread, as this was one of ten 78 records by Bill Haley which I bought in 1956 at the age of 16:
BillF
But by 1957 I'd moved onto this (it may say 1949, but it still looked like this); And this - also bought in 1957 (in Dobell's) - still looked like this: But those were transitional times for formats and in the same year I got this: Edited May 10, 2015 by BillF
BillF
But by '58 I was on to the 12" LP format and you'll notice the music had changed, too:
mikeweil
I had an original 78 of Rock Around the Clock on Brunswick, but some dumb guy dropped it during one of our last removals ... Similar to this, butmine was a German pressing: Edited May 10, 2015 by mikeweil
