papsrus Posted March 28, 2017 Report Posted March 28, 2017 (edited) Rameau -- Pygmalion & Nelee et Myrthis Les Arts Florissants A pair of one-act operas, the latter of which may be part of an incomplete larger opera-ballet. Those who decide such things can't quite decide. Either way, lovely, lilting stuff, but I wouldn't say it packs a punch in any way. Edited March 28, 2017 by papsrus Quote

mikeweil Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 With each listen I am amazed at the high quality of her playing and the intelligent program choices. This time I accidentally hit random play and it still sounds convincing, due to the fact that all but two pieces are in the same key, sol majeur/mineur (g major/minor), which she connects with the roi soleil - so as symbolic key for the sun king. She wrote an excellent essay on the subject a while ago. Great sound to, of the "golden" harpsichord at the Swiss museum at Neuchâtel. Quote

JSngry Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 I'm not always one to naturally bond with Hindemith, but these renditions are pretty bondable. Or maybe it's just my cello ear-fetish. Quote
