That was only my first listen.  I recently picked up the CD at library book sale.  

Initial impressions:  It sounded like "old-school" (as in mid-20th c.) Bach.  Romanticized and rhapsodic, rather than architectural.  Not at all HIP -- but I enjoyed it. 

What are your thoughts on Pires' Bach?

Thanks. Yes, Binchois Consort is excellent! I have that very album plus a few others by them on Hyperion. Many good ensembles on that label.

Thnx .... my impressions similar to yours aka quite good, but due to stiff competition nothing to shout from the rooftops ....

R.I.P. I long ago considered listening to some of his operas (e.g. Lear, das Schloss, Medea) but never got around to it.😢

"Medea", "Das Schloss" and "Melusine" are wonderful ....
