mikeweil Posted October 7, 2016 Report Posted October 7, 2016 (edited) http://dbate.de/videos/miles-davis-geschichte-eines-verschollenen-interviews/ Bad video quality, taped on a defective U-Matic machine. Miles rarely gave interviews in those years, so the guys were totally surprised when he agreed to see them after a midnight (!) concert in Hamburg, and had no time to get better equipment, had to lights etc.. They edited it down to the film seen here; it circulated shortly among German collectors, was then presumed lost for thirty years, but relocated just recently Edited October 7, 2016 by mikeweil Quote
sidewinder Posted October 7, 2016 Report Posted October 7, 2016 Thanks for posting this - never seen it before. I remember at least one other interview done during this period - in London with Ian Carr I think, where Miles is doing a drawing whilst he is being interviewed. Nice to see footage of that Berg/Stern band as well ! Quote
l p Posted October 7, 2016 Report Posted October 7, 2016 post-retirement miles gave video interviews all the time. it's the pre-retirement audio interviews that can be counted on one hand. no video interviews from pre-retirement. Quote
rostasi Posted October 7, 2016 Report Posted October 7, 2016 Thanks for this. I've never seen this and it's still "timely" if you know what I mean - always, apparently. Tonight, on the "Decades" channel, the Cavett show from 1986 with Miles (and Nicolas Cage making a fool of himself) airs. Quote
Gheorghe Posted October 10, 2016 Report Posted October 10, 2016 Yes, Miles from 1981 was much more mellow than before. And there are some interviews that he really seemed to enjoy, I think there was a long interview in a Miles documentary film about his career, that had footages from TV performance with Gil Evans and his classic quintet, many footages of 60´s 70´s and a long interview with Miles in good moods, explaining why he wanders on the stage, and why he sometimes turns his back to the audience, and praising Gil Evans, who was still alive Quote
