Very sad the whole day. A genius as mentioned.

Never had the chance to see him live, and hoping some ICP records will become available again. I have tickets to see Han Bennink in a Noël Akchoté formation next tuesday and I can imagine there will be a kind of homage given there.

I have not yet known the music of this particular scene as much or as well as I would like to and maybe someday will, but what/when I have heard it, the integrity  and fullness of the vision is overwhelmingly immediate, so...RIP,, and we'll keep listening as the currents flow.

Misha did not think his music was considered beautiful. It led him to accept the alienation.....
He loved the experience of nothingness, Dada and Fluxus, and called himself pianist, composer and Fluxusartist.

The ICP Orchestra will perform a concert in memory of Misha Mengelberg on Saturday, 25 March at 2:30 PM

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say -- and I agree that Mengelberg's intentions had a dark humor and perhaps leapt into the void (to borrow from Yves Klein) -- but I've experienced beauty and a lot of joy in Misha's music, whether or not he intended it to be there!

From personal experience I actually found Misha to be very kind and generous, not to mention quite funny..

My experience was the same. What a kind and generous and funny and serious man. No wonder those ICP musicians were so loyal to him for so long.
