paul secor
I agree. Kenneth Noland may have milked one idea too many times, though I'm not sure which painting was done first. The trio does not try to play like Bill Evans, but rather to bring a spirit to the session that shows their respect for him and his music. Though 2 members of the trio have a lengthy history with Evans, Moroni has his own personal approach that balances the Gomez and LaBarbera experience. A good and very interesting recording. HutchFan
Duke Ellington - The Private Collection, Volume 6: Dance Dates, California 1958 (Saja) Prime material from the stockpile. All of the ambient sounds -- people talking & laughing right along with the music (including Duke!) -- only adds to the you-are-there vibe. I love that whole series.  Archie Shepp and the Full Moon Ensemble - Live at Antibes (Fuel 2000). If it weren't for the brass soloists (Al Shorter and Clifford Thornton), I might ditch this one. But they're so good.... Woody Shaw - Bemsha Swing (BN). I miss Geri Allen.
