Justin V Posted August 6, 2020 Report Posted August 6, 2020 I think this was Donald Bailey's only leader date (with Odean Pope, Charles Tolliver, Tyrone Brown and George Burton!). It was released on Talking House Records, which released two other fine albums in their Blueprints of Jazz series, by Billy Harper and Mike Clark. I recommend them all. Quote

HutchFan Posted August 6, 2020 Report Posted August 6, 2020 (edited) NP: Just posted a brief entry on this 1976 Braxton recording on my blog. I love the humor and theatricality in this music. Edited August 6, 2020 by HutchFan Quote
JSngry Posted August 6, 2020 Author Report Posted August 6, 2020 Listen to your kids' records. If you raised them right, you'll hear things you like, as well as things that repulse you. But, you know, build on the commonalities, respect the differences, and just be thankful for what you got, diamond in the back sunroof top, etc. Quote

This was the great Mingus Band of the 70´s, with George Adams and Don Pullen (later replaced by Ricky Ford and Bob Neloms). I´ll never Forget how impressed I was by their live versions of "Sue´s Changes". And Don Pullen could play everything from stride piano to free. Like Jakie Byard in the 60´s bands..... Quote
jazzbo Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 Stefan Harris "The Great Unification Theory" Blue Note cd This is a thoroughly modern larger ensemble session with intriguing arrangements and great playing that incorporates a world of jazz forms. I slept on this one too long. Quote
