Three “Johnnys” to listen to as the snow falls gently.

First “Jeri Southern Meets Johnny Smith” on this excellent sounding Roulette/Warner Music SHM-CD from Japan.

Then this Verve cd . . .”Johnny Smith” . . . beautiful.

And now this UHQCD from Japan of the Bethlehem album “Songs from the Heart” by Johnny Hartman.

I really haven't dug Matt Mitchell's other leader albums, but this one is a favorite.

Yeah. Prompted by my recent Snakeoil listening bender i wanted to get some Mitchell as a leader and this one seemed like the safest bet.

Listening again to this excellent date from Paul Jeffrey. This is my favorite of his albums and I'm glad to have this cd version to replace a record that is noisier than I'd like. Some great writing, playing and arranging.

This looks good Kinuta - could you pls share your impression .... ?

I'm not one for music criticism but it's a really pleasurable, solid groove all the way through. The band are rock steady tight and the hammond and exceptionaly together drummer really propel it along with hammond foot pedals giving it a 60's Blue Note vibe.

Knowing something of your taste I'd say it's a satisfaction guaranteed no brainer.
