mikeweil Posted January 2, 2018 Report Posted January 2, 2018 The sound on this set is excellent (Doug Pomeroy). Looking forward to watching the DVD part with my wife later this evening. Quote
duaneiac Posted January 2, 2018 Report Posted January 2, 2018 I've had this CD for many, many years, so I guess it was an EU bootleg from a time before the EU even existed. You can hear the pops and crackles of the vinyl it was copied from. What was the "award winning film" from Cannes '88 of which this CD speaks? The info shown on the CD back card is all the info this release provides and even it is wrong since "Summertime" is principally a showcase for Ray Nance on violin, not Kenny Dorjham. Quote
mikeweil Posted January 2, 2018 Report Posted January 2, 2018 (edited) All I know is that it was a bootleg of a Chess double LP: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Charlie-Parker-Memorial-Concert/release/4811344 The new liner notes refer to the "Bird" movie with Forest Whitaker: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094747/awards?ref_=tt_awd Edited January 2, 2018 by mikeweil Quote

duaneiac Posted January 2, 2018 Report Posted January 2, 2018 (edited) A solo piano recording from 1972, originally released on Mr. Shearing's Sheba Records label. I enjoy his solo outings and this one is okay, but the three he recorded for Concord are my favorites, i suppose. Right now he is playing a nice interpolation of "Snowfall" into "Change Partners". 2 hours ago, mikeweil said: All I know is that it was a bootleg of a Chess double LP: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Charlie-Parker-Memorial-Concert/release/4811344 The new liner notes refer to the "Bird" movie with Forest Whitaker: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094747/awards?ref_=tt_awd Thanks. That at least provides some idea of the personnel on each track (even if it may be less than 100% correct).l Tying this CD into the Bird movie was quite a stretch on the part of whoever reissued this LP on CD.
