Justin V Posted February 28, 2019 Report Posted February 28, 2019 Frank Kimbrough - Lullabluebye: I searched my Google Play library for trio albums and this one caught my eye. It'd been a couple years since I played it. I may have to spin Kimbrough's first album, Lonely Woman, soon. Quote

paul secor Posted February 28, 2019 Report Posted February 28, 2019 I like the music of Bobby Bradford, John Carter, Richard Davis, and Andrew Cyrille very much, but Don Preston's extraneous and unnecessary piano and synthesizer pretty much ruin this record for me. Quote
JSngry Posted February 28, 2019 Author Report Posted February 28, 2019 finding a lot of cool stuff on the iPod. Kind of a drag that it's all older/familiar, but hey, it's an iPod that's been stored away for 5+ years, whaddya' expect? Quote

Dan Gould Posted February 28, 2019 Report Posted February 28, 2019 Never heard of this until I stumbled across on a discogs listing and went for it. Pretty nice, maybe more enjoyable for me than many of Watson's leader dates I've heard. Quote

If you don't listen for a while, old and familiar can become new and unfamiliar. Nothing wrong with that. Quote

Nothing wrong with that. Yeah, maybe. Sometimes. Depends on how familiar you had gotten with it before you stopped listening the last time. Results vary widely to put it mildly. Some of it, I just have to stop, I'm like yeahyeahyeahyeah, STOP, next. But sometimes, it's familiar and still big fun, like the next one in/on the silver boxed garden of digital delights: Those Barretto Fania albums from the 70s are almost always strong! Quote

JSngry Posted February 28, 2019 Author Report Posted February 28, 2019 Charanga is always refreshing after a prolong absence. And Barretto was making it modern with the changes even while being wholly trad with the format itself. Some more cool stuff from the man who was always all-in with the big glasses. Quote

As it turns out, Google Play was showing Lullabluebye as the artist image but I was playing Lonely Woman. Here I thought that it'd been so long since I'd listened to Lullabluebye that it sounded totally different and somewhat unfamiliar; Lonely Woman joined my collection only a year or two ago, while I've had Lullabluebye since maybe 2005 or 2006. Now I am listening to Lullabluebye. Quote
