R.I.P. Pedro Iturralde (1929-2020)

Spanish saxophonist and clarinetist Pedro Iturralde passed away this week. He was 91 years old.

I have fond memories of the many PI concerts I attended over the past 20 years (Galileo Galileo, Central, Madrid Jazz Festival, Clamores...). I talked to him a few times and he was always gentle and communicative, even in July 2019, when he had severe hearing deficit.

A legend in the Spanish jazz landscape for more than 60 years. Second only to Tete Montoliu.

He will be sorely missed.

Had this CD for a number of years. It is the only example of Iturraide's playing I have heard. Very enjoyable session.
