.:.impossible Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 I'm in outside sales for a cable provider who provides bandwidth and dial tone to businesses here in RI through either hfc (hybrid fiber coax, what your cable television is delivered over) or fiber optics. Quote
DTMX Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 I'm not sure what I do anymore. February 27th: I work for Company A as an engineer. Company A builds widgets for Company B, which sells them to Company C. Company C did not renew the contract with Company B so Company A has no need to build mass quantity widgets. Company A sold all of its equipment to Company B to build small quantities of widgets. Company A sold its building to Company D which builds watchamacallits for Company C. Company D is moving its equipment and management into Company A's building. About two-thirds of Company A's workforce will be working for Company D building watchamacallits for Company C. These employees no longer work for Company A - they work for Company D. Company A has manufactured thingamabobs in the past for Company E. Company E is currently renting officespace with Company A. Company E is now buying manufacturing space elsewhere. What is left of Company A is moving into Company E's new office. Company A is still called Company A. Some employees of Company A are being transfered to Company E. Some employees of Company A do not go to Company C or Company E and are laid off. In the month of March I will install Company A's equipment at Company B. [Done] In the month of March I will prepare Company A's facility for the arrival of Company D. [Done] In the month of March I will install Company A's equipment at Company B. [Ongoing] In the month of March I will move Company E's equipment from Company A's facility to the new facility of Company E. [Upcoming] In the month of March I will move Company A's offices and lab from Company A's facility to the new facility of Company E. April 1st: Company B will be manufacturing Company C's widgets using Company A's equipment at Company B. Company D will be manufacturing Company C's watchamacallits using Company A's workforce at Company A's old facility. Company A will be manufacturing Company E's thingamabobs using Company E's equipment at Company E's new facility. I will work for Company A - I think. Quote
TedR Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 I had been a sales manager for various food service companies for 20 some years. I stopped when a close friend was diagnosed with a form of acute leukemia. She desparately needed a care giver and advocate. The last 4 years have been extremely difficult, frightening, and, after a successful stem cell tranplant, ultimately rewarding and inspirational. Susan is my hero and her doctor and nurses are role models for me. Yesterday we attended her first Cancer Survivor's get together. Very special day! Now thankfully we can breathe a little and I can find out where I fit into the working world again. Most likely I'm dead wood in my past career. The future's uncertain but I'm happy as can be. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 Great story Ted. (Especially after wading through DTMX's schematics on the previous post. ) Quote

PHILLYQ Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I work on Wall Street, but I am a back-office gnome who works very under the radar. I'm due to be laid-off in a few months, and then if I'm accepted into this special program I'll start a new career as a teacher. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted March 22, 2004 Report Posted March 22, 2004 I sell cigars on the internet at http://www.russellmoon.com I gave up tobacco years ago and can't believe I ever smoked cigarettes. But, man, do I miss cigars... Quote
