mjzee
I've never before heard of Sherman, TX. Very close to the Oklahoma line. It's about 6 hrs from Houston, but definitely worth investigating.

And wanting nothing more than to see a portrait of Doc Severinsen... Glad that they finally explain the liner notes do. Who knew! What's the cover charge? It is indeed a quick hop up there. Morganized
Been there several times. Bill Collins is the owner/proprietor. Trumpet man. UNT. Really nice guy. Wonderful collection of horns from Louie, Harry, Miles etc. Purchased a lot from the Maynard Ferguson estate. Great artwork of the jazz greats done by local artists. One room is a reincarnation of an imagined 50's jazz club. He and his family have put in the effort and it shows. Open only a couple of times a week so check before going! The museum is right off the square in Sherman. They have performances at the museum from time to time. This weekend I believe, the city of Sherman is having a festival that includes a couple of big bands from Dallas including the DJO and Memphis Brass! Got that word of mouth so check before going. I always chuckle that there is a Jazz Museum in Sherman, Texas. You kinda expect one in New Orleans, New York, Chicago, Kansas City..... but Sherman, Tx. ?? Only in Texas is all I can say!! hahaha As kh1958 said above, Booker Ervin and Kenny Dorham both hailed from those parts. Sherman/Denison,Texas. The twin cities!! Check it out. It's a fun afternoon.
