While perusing Discogs I came across this: : https://www.discogs.com/release/7920632-Gil-Evans-Favorite-Catalina-Melodies

Anyone know anything about? Is it even "the" Gil Evans?  No mention of it in any of the 3 books I have about Gil.

According to Stephanie Crease's bio he "wrote to the Carpenters in April 1949...'we're on our way to California'".  She later says that "Between 1950 and 1951 Gil worked at a strip club in Greenwich Village..."  So it's not impossible (though unlikely).

I have a copy of that record. I'll see if I can make an mp3 of it in the weekend. The label is signed Gil Evans.

Listening to it is suffering for science.

Save your ears: turns out that there was a guy named Gil Evans in residence at the casino 1947-50.  Did you obtain it thinking it might be our Gil?

Yes I did. A dud if ever there was one.
