Dan Gould Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 I was stunned when it came down to the two Johns last night. The Idol who at least was born for these times got axed. We can only hope the other twit gets it next time. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 16, 2004 Author Report Posted April 16, 2004 Well, they lined up the three persons I liked least as the "lowest three" and got my hopes up. . . and then that John Stevens got to walk back and sit down. I just can't believe it! How long will this travesty go on! Quote
RDK Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 I keep thinking that John Stevens *looks like* he wants to be voted off and go home. What started out as fun for him seems to bring him more misery each week. I don't think even *he* thinks he belongs there anymore. Quote
Parkertown Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 What Ray said. He always looks totally shocked and bewildered! Especially when Camille got sent home...I thought he was gonna cry. Quote
Parkertown Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 I'm convinced his mom has all her church cronies calling in every week, in a huge grass-roots campaign! Quote
Parkertown Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 You know what I love? How during the other night's show, when LaToya sang, how she hits those notes that make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. That's cool. She's done it a few times... Quote
rachel Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 Here's an interesting article that I like to call, "American Idols Who Really Suck Yet They Keep Staying Week After Week And What's Up With That Anyway?" http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4649112/ Quote
jazzbo Posted April 16, 2004 Author Report Posted April 16, 2004 Fantasia and Latoya are neck to neck as the one most likely to win in the poll at the bottom of that article. I voted that I think Fantasia is the most likely to win, though I'd rather see Jennifer get it. I think that woman is an awesome singer! Quote
TedR Posted April 17, 2004 Report Posted April 17, 2004 I haven't been following the show closely. But I saw part of this past weeks show. LaToya seemed able to sing softly and quietly very well. That made her stand out to me as opposed to the judges loving the (imo) oversinging of "Summertime" by Fantasia. Quote
LAL Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 Barry Manilow night this week ?!@# Bring back Sir Elton. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 19, 2004 Author Report Posted April 19, 2004 Good gosh, I'm already cringing thinking of John Stephens singing "Mandy." Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 Man am I glad to know there's a Homeowner's Association meeting Tuesday night. Quote
RDK Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 I'm not sure what's worse: the album itself or the fact that it gets such a "thorough" review... http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...l=A11520r4al489 Quote
LAL Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 (edited) I'm not sure what's worse: the album itself or the fact that it gets such a "thorough" review... http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...l=A11520r4al489 FWIW, it's even rated! Maybe the guy planned it all along - the 'horrendous' singing and actions. He knew he couldn't compete with the rest, so he'd play it on his own terms. So far, it's worked! Now gotta go listen to some 'rough jazz' ala Kid Thomas to get rid of that rendition of 'she bangs' from the brain. Edited April 20, 2004 by LAL Quote
Parkertown Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Wow, there's even sound clips!!! I now have a new favorite version of "Hotel California". But he butchers "I Believe I Can Fly"... Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Good gosh, I'm already cringing thinking of John Stephens singing "Mandy." Lord, if only you had been joking...... Quote
patricia Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Good gosh, I'm already cringing thinking of John Stephens singing "Mandy." Lord, if only you had been joking...... I heard it and it was, to be kind, unremarkable. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 21, 2004 Author Report Posted April 21, 2004 Yes, if only I had been wrong! It was better than some of his performances, but ultimately he doesn't need to be there. More and more for me Jennifer is my favorite. Latoya and Fantasia and George are right up there too. . . but it's Jennifer that does the most moving vocals for me. Quote
marcoliv Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Sony Channel is airing the show here in Brazil with a gap of one week so i´m still stunned with Fantasia's Summertime performance. it´s really funny to know that some of you guys like this, i would never expect that my favorites are in order: Latoya, Jennifer, George, Fantasia Marcus Oliveira Quote
RDK Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 I'm torn (almost since the beginning) between La Toya and Fantasia as my favorite. I think La Toya has the better "voice," but Fantasia has more style and personality. I'm glad to see that ennifer has been getting better each week. She may have the strongest voice, but she doesn't strike me as "pop" enough for this competition. I do like her though. George seems like a really nice guy and I really want to root for him, but he just doesn't do it for me as a solo performer. I really agree with Simon's early comment about George fitting right in with a Temptations-like group. One of my early favorites was Diana - the performance that got her into the top 12 really knocked me out - but she's disappointed me ever since. I think she's very talented, but she's just too young and has trouble finding the "emotion" in the songs she's singing. I think this is the other John's week to go... Quote
AfricaBrass Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Good gosh, I'm already cringing thinking of John Stephens singing "Mandy." Lord, if only you had been joking...... I heard it and it was, to be kind, unremarkable. I liked Simon's quote, "John, I think Mandy fell asleep." Poor John, Simon finally realized who he reminded him of, Stan Laurel. I think John's time is up. I was really impressed by the women, but the guys didn't do so hot. I don't see George winning. If John wasn't around, I'd bet that George would get the heave-ho. Quote
