I see JA's Lancashire comeback has been further delayed, with a new target of 16th May. I am now thinking this is never going to happen, if England come calling for his coaching / mentoring services

Hope springs eternal. My ticket is for September. So there is time

Off to OT tomorrow. A day off work, Sir JA is in the squad, unbroken sunshine and 23 deg C forecast.  I suppose the only drawback is that it's Derbyshire, possibly the least exciting team in the country.

I see the forecast is good for the weekend as I am heading to Manchester to visit friends.  Packing shorts! Will  miss the cricket, as focussed on a certain football club’s last attempt on some silverware this season….

It's been cracking the flags in Manchester for weeks! A fairly sedate day at the cricket today. Didn't get to see Sir JA as Lancashire were put in, and managed to bat (slowly) all day.

The T-20 format, I know, is offensive to purists, but it's something i can watch and follow one match straight through. And with my local MLB team looking like the want to suck again, MLC is certainly a pleasant way to look away from that. I've gone to a few matches and even bought merch!

But the phrase "iconic Oakland Coliseum" is morbidly amusing. That place is a cavern and all but dead.

MLC opener - Finn Allen went GONZO tonight. 19 sixes!

The Oakland Coliseu is, as mentioned previously, a cavern. Some of these balls were "double deckers" that bounced around the empty seats. It was a bit surreal.

At one point, San Francisco (sic) hammered. IIRC, seven consecutive sixes. Most impressive!

SF finishes their inning 269-5 and wins by 163!

Whoa

I saw some badly edited highlights of the SF innings this morning - 269 is a ridiculous score. Are the Texas games better attended? Looked quite a sparse crowd - no cheap tickets to entice the locals in?

That Oakland stadium is HUGE. The crowd size was probably normal.

The games in Texas  are played in a much smaller stadium. A good crowd will fill it up.

Cognizant is betting heavily that they're building this thing out for the long term. I hope they do well on that

Ah fair enough.

Meanwhile, at Lords. They couldn't, could they?

Highly unlikely, suspect SA to be bowled out for around 200. Aussie bowling attack just too good

After seeing some of South Africa's defeats snatched from the jaws of victory over the past 30 years, I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if they end up losing this by about 15 runs.

I know, three quick wickets for less than 25 in the morning and I can see them imploding. Avoid that and they should win which I think I'd be pleased to see them do it only to bloody the nose of the arch enemy

One helluva nailbiter in MLC this evening, going down to the last ball. Texas hung in and won by 3, 285-182. It's almost midnight here and my heart is still racing...

I'm getting too old for this late-night drama!
