Hardbopjazz Posted March 7, 2025 Report Posted March 7, 2025 Anyone know more about this release? I'm a big George Cables fan. I came across this while looking for one of his early 1970s releases on Atlas. https://www.ebay.com/itm/156166217395 Quote
JSngry Posted March 7, 2025 Report Posted March 7, 2025 Here's the label: https://www.discogs.com/master/1781748-George-Cables-Trio-The-Cocktail-Hour And here's the producer: https://www.discogs.com/artist/342035-Sharon-OConnor Quote
Niko Posted March 7, 2025 Report Posted March 7, 2025 I'd say the Kenny Barron album on that label looks tastier Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted March 8, 2025 Report Posted March 8, 2025 I ordered a copy of both of these CDs. The Barron one sounds particularly interesting. I got it here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1883914361 Also here: https://www.amazon.com/Table-Menus-Music®-Gift-Boxed/dp/B001KK28XQ Quote
Ken Dryden Posted March 8, 2025 Report Posted March 8, 2025 I have a duplicate of the Cables release for sale. Message me if interested. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted March 8, 2025 Report Posted March 8, 2025 I also ordered this one from that label: Quote
JSngry Posted March 8, 2025 Report Posted March 8, 2025 Sharon O'Connor is quite the entrepreneur! Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted March 11, 2025 Report Posted March 11, 2025 I got this one in and spun it last night. It's definitely "Italian restaurant music". It does break out into some jazzier sections but it's mostly not. I still like it for what it is. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted March 15, 2025 Report Posted March 15, 2025 I have the George Cables and Kenny Barron. Haven't played them in a long time. Put them on the pile I hope to play soon. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted March 30, 2025 Report Posted March 30, 2025 I have been playing the Cables CD a few times this past week and it is as advertised: Jazz for the cocktail hour. Nothing breaks the rules... just lightly swinging piano to sip a drink to. I also got the Barron disc (after two tries to get the package with the CD and not just the cookbook. This I like quite a bit. Quote
