Sorry, my mistake, did not realize they were different!  Looking at them now, both are strange releases IMO.  Atlantic released nine Coltrane albums (Giant Steps, Coltrane Jazz, My Favorite Things, Ole, Plays The Blues, Coltrane's Sound, the Legacy outtakes album, the one with Milt Jackson, the one with Don Cherry), each of these covers six of those albums, with a three album overlap.  Why not just do a nine disc set with them all?  I'm sticking with the old Heavyweight Champion box myself.  That one had everything from all nine albums and more.

At the time of the first release I believe that the original mono tapes for three of the albums from 1960 to 1964 were not available, possibly lost. They seem available now, so they decided to just do the first six releases under his own name. I can understand that decision. No need to get this set unless you are interested in the mono mixes. I think they all sound quite good.

I'm really surprised at how expensive the first set has become in the used market.
