  1. Can someone confirm the track list for this early 1990s LP set? Jazzdisco.org seems a bit confusing on the discographical info. I thought I would get the actual tracklist and then work backwards to the recording dates/personnel. Thanks. John Vancouver BC Here's a tracklist I recently found online: Mosaic #105 Art Pepper The Complete Pacific Jazz Small Group Recordings Of Art Pepper (3 LPs) LP 1 A1 - Tynan Time A2 - The Route A3 - Sonny Boy A4 - Minor Yours B1 - Little Girl B2 - Ol' Croix B3 - I Can't Give You Anything But Love B4 - The Great Lie B5 - Tenderly LP 2 A1 - Picture of Heath A2 - For Miles and Miles A3 - CTA B1 - For Minors Only B2 - Minor Yours B3 - Resonant Emotions B4 - Tynan Time LP 3 A1 - Diane-A-Flow A2 - Zenobia A3 - What Is This Thing Called Love A4 - A Foggy Day A5 - Popo (Alt) B1 - Popo (Master) B2 - Didi B3 - Powder Puff B4 - Bunny B5 - Diablo's Dance
  2. I'm bumping up Han's thread with another question. Does the NK Cole Mosaic booklet have info on whether the LPs in the vinyl version of the set were sourced from analogue or digital masters? I know Mosaic used digital sources for the LPs in their other gigantic project from that same time period - the Commodore I, II, III LP sets. I wonder if the Cole set was similarly-produced simply due to the huge workload involved. Perhaps using digital sources was simply standard operating procedure for the majority of their LP sets from that time (the early '90s)? Any insight? And thanks for the info on the tracks missing from the NK Cole set. John Vancouver BC
  3. Hi Jim, PM en route with a question. Thanks, John

  7. Hello Hans, I hadn't thought of that - I'll keep Mosaic as a last resort, as I would prefer not to bother them about this. Thanks, though. Best wishes, John Vancouver BC I think I know the jerk you're talking about. I contacted him last week and he doesn't have the Vol. III booklet. Thanks for the lead, however. John Vancouver BC
  8. I just bought a copy of the Commodore Volume III Mosaic LP set on ebay. The price was very reasonable, but one of the reasons was the lack of the booklet. This is a REAL longshot, but if any members out there might have a spare copy of the Vol. III booklet (or have an idea where I might find one), I would be very interested. I will pay $40 to $50 US + shipping, I suppose. Thanks very much, john vancouver BC PS: yes, I did contact Mosaic to find out if they had a spare copy for sale (and Scott confirmed that they did not).

    DIZZY GILLESPIE

I'm bumping this thread because it seems to be the best one for discussion of Dizzy's discography. So - does anyone know if all the tracks from Gillespie's sessions for Capitol have ever been legitimately reissued on CD or LP? These are the session dates listed at jazzdisco.org (which of course means the info might be badly out of date): December 21, 1947 (The Metronome All Stars) - 2 tracks November 21, 1949 - 4 tracks January 9, 1950 - 4 tracks Several of the tracks were reissued on the '70s LP "Tadd Dameron, Babs Gonzales, Dizzy Gillespie - Capitol Jazz Classics Vol. 13 - Strictly BeBop" (Capitol M 11059, (Du) 5C 052.80852), but the rest seem to be hidden away on anthologies and Japanese LPs released decades ago. I've browsed through discogs.com, allmusic.com, etctera, and can't find info on legit EMI CD reissues (I want to avoid the European bootleg labels Fresh Sounds, Proper, et al). Have EMI Japan ever compiled a CD, for instance? Thanks, John Vancouver BC

  14. Here's discographical info for the 1 CD compilation I found a few years ago in Phil Bailey's essay at www2.selu.edu. I remember checking Bailey's info against the Mosaic set's discography at the time and I didn't see any conflicts. But I don't own the compilation CD and can't verify the info 100%: Bill Evans - "The Artist's Choice: Highlights From Turn Out The Stars" (Warner Bros. 9 46425-2, 1996) 01. 15. PM en route for a bunch of these. Thanks John. John W. (repeat customer) Vancouver BC
  16. I saw this band in Vancouver BC on June 25. Vernon Reid gave a short speech honouring Tony Williams and the dedication required to keep the original Lifetime band going against all the obstacles he faced. I think this attitude is shared by all four musicians in the Spectrum Road band. They seem to be really serious about the repertoire and they are really serious about playing LOUD. If you go to see them, hearing protection is a must.
  17. Thanks to Kevin B for writing this post before I went to see these guys in Vancouver that same night (June 22). It WAS loud, but I took my earplugs and happily survived both shows from the front row. With the exception of Craig Handy it was my first time seeing any of these musicians perform live. They sound like a real band - not a thrown-together All-Stars thing. Great tunes and interesting arrangements. My thanks and appreciation to David Weiss if and when he checks back in with this thread. John W. Vancouver BC
  18. My hypothesis: it's because of the unreleased live tracks in the Woody Shaw set. The unreleased material means bringing in the lawyers and accountants to get new contracts signed and royalty rates set. Depending on the original contracts, even the sidemen might be need to be paid for the previously-unreleased tracks, 30-plus years later. In comparison, all the material on the Wayne Shorter box is previously released and Sony can probably reissue it any way they want without such complications.
  19. Hi Lon. Can you clarify what problems on Native Dancer were corrected for this new remaster? Thanks. John Vancouver BC
